A weeks skiing in the shadow of the Matterhorn

The Matterhorn, always in sight!

Top tip: book all restaurants well in advance, they get booked up very early

Day 1

  • Arrive in Geneva

  • Train from Geneva Airport > Zermatt (via Visp) with SNCF (3h45m)

  • Check-in to accommodation sourced by WA Destinations, a fantastic agency with the best connections in the village

  • Dinner at Grampi's; a restaurant with a lively atmosphere, serving delicious pizzas and other Italian food

  • Live music at The Pink Live Music Bar, Hotel Post; great live music most nights

Day 2 (Ski Matterhorn area)
Top runs: numbers 62, 66, & 71 (map)

  • Pick up skis from Dorsaz Sport near Matterhorn Express; they have lockers where you can leave your ski and boots each evening

  • If lessons are needed source through WA Destinations

  • Lunch at Pizzeria at Trockner Steg; laid back mountain restaurant attached to a cafeteria

  • Drinks at Papa Caesars; serves great cocktails

  • Dinner at Le Gitan; a cozy Swiss meat and fish grill restaurant

Gornergrat railway, takes you from town to the Gornergrat observatory

Day 3 (ski Gornergrat area)
Top runs: numbers 26, 28, 35 & 36

  • Morning pit stop at Iglu-Dorf, just off run 45

  • Take Gornergrat Railway up to the top station. Not the quickest way up the mountain but a very pretty and enjoyable experience

  • Lunch at Zum See; a delightful restaurant located in a small hamlet. Local cuisine offers a variety of dishes

  • Drink at Harry’s Bar; a lively apres ski atmosphere with a cosy feel

Day 4 (ski Sunnegga/Rothorn)
Top runs: numbers 8, 12 & 15

  • Lunch at Franz and Heidi (aka Findlerhof); rustic restaurant with the best food on the mountain with stunning vistas. Drop your skis off at the church and wander down through the mountain huts to the restaurant

  • Spa session or massage at La Ginabelle - you will need to book in advance

Wander through Zermatt Village, enjoying the traditional Swiss architecture dating back the 16th Century

Day 5 (ski Sunnegga/Rothorn)
Top runs: numbers 19 & 31

  • Lunch at Fluhalp: restaurant with one of the best views in Zermatt, famous for their Rosti (Swiss specialty). Request a table near the band if that is your jam

  • Drink on way down at Paradise or Chez Vrony

  • Dinner at Brown Cow, Hotel Post; easy-going atmosphere, serving tasty burgers

Day 6 (ski Cervinia, Italy)
Top runs: numbers 5, 7, 15 & 37

  • Lunch at La Bricole; incredible Italian food, very well presented. Work up an appetite for this one!

  • Dinner at sayCheese; located in the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof and serves great fondue in a modern but warm setting

Day 7
Top runs: numbers 51, 53, 54 & 69

  • Late lunch at Blatten; the perfect place to close out the week. Hope for sun and get a spot on the terrace looking up at the Matterhorn

  • Drop skis off at Dorsaz Sport at the end of the day

Day 8 (southwest, St Michael | Christ Church)

  • Checkout & catch the train back to Geneva Airport
